We hope that the new year is off to a great start for all of you. While we focus on presenting and providing art education resources inspired by African-American visual artists throughout the year, February is an important month for Art For the Creative Soul. Click here to learn more about the origin of African-American history month. and it's founder, Dr. Carter G. Woodson. Meanwhile, here are three tips for celebrating African-American History Month in the art room: 1. Create a bulletin board display that features an African-American visual artist. We have a variety of resources to help you create a colorful bulletin board design. Check out our Great African-American Artists Calendar Set or our Great African-American Artists Coloring & Activity Book to find portraits featuring African-American visual artists. 2. Teach your students about African-American artists using art history games. Our bingo games, Harlem Renaissance Art Hop game and Great African-American Artists Dollars would be great way to teach students about some very interesting African-American artists. 3. Present art lessons inspired by the work of African-American visual artists.
The examples below are just two art lesson resources, that we offer. Explore our website to see all of the other art lessons available and share your tips on how you celebrate African-American history month in the art room by commenting below.

Happy New Year! We are excited about 2016 and the commemoration of Dr. King's birthday coming up in a few days. Last year we were privileged to visit the powerful memorial of Dr. King in our nations capitol which inspired this post. While there are many fantastic paintings of Dr. King, we have listed three of our favorite paintings of Dr. King that can be used as a source of inspiration for lessons in the art room. (The three paintings below are protected by copyright law and are only displayed for educational purposes. Click on each portrait to learn more about the artist who painted each portrait.)
